Rotations for the Critical Care Emphasis Program
Children's National Hospital offers a PGY2 Pediatric program with critical care emphasis which has its own NMS code. This program gives the resident an opportunity to tailor their year to gain more knowledge and experience in critical care.
- Core (for traditional [non-emphasis] track and critical care [emphasis] track)
- Orientation
- Critical Care (pick 2)
- Pediatric Intensive Care** (must take PICU if not taken in PGY1)
- Neonatal Intensive Care** (must take NICU if not taken in PGY1)
- Cardiac Intensive Care
- Oncology (pick 1)
- Pediatric Oncology
- Stem Cell Transplant
- Practice Management
- Pediatric Infectious Disease
- Additional Required rotations:
- The final critical care (i.e. ICU) not chosen as part of the Core
- Pediatric Emergency Care and Trauma
*Any of the required rotations may be repeated to replace an elective rotation.
**Of note, some elective rotations may not be offered each year dependent on preceptor availability.

Off-Campus Rotations
Residents will be considered for going off-campus for up to 2 rotations during the course of the year on a case by case basis (dependent on the development plan set for the resident).
